Michael Lucas — the entire company

Why one person beats an agency

You hire me, you get me. There is no junior team.

I work one build at a time — your project gets my full attention until it ships. That's the whole model, and it's how you get an agency-style website at about half the agency price.

  • One invoice. No payroll, no benefits, no agency markup. Cancel anytime.
  • Local. Charlotte, NC — not an agency reselling your project overseas.
  • One owner. Website, Google Business Profile, SEO, and reviews — one person runs all of it, so nothing falls between departments.
Services & pricing

Real prices, published on purpose.

Most agencies make you book a call just to hear a number. I'd rather you know exactly what things cost, up front. So here it is — all of it.

The exit, published like the prices

You leave with everything. That's the deal.

Every horror story about a web guy "holding the site hostage" starts the same way: somebody else's name on the accounts. Nothing here works that way — and you can verify all of it.

Your domain

Registered in your registrar account, never mine. I don't "handle it for you" in my name — that's how hostage stories start.

Your Google profile

You're the Owner of your Google Business Profile. I'm a Manager you can remove in two clicks. Your reviews stay yours, whoever you hire next.

Your website

Once it's paid for, the site — code, design, content — is yours, in the contract. Standard foundations any developer can pick up.

The Exit File

Leave, and you get every credential, a full backup, your data exported, and a clean handoff to whoever's next. 30 days, no fees, no fine print.

Month to month. Thirty days' notice. No exit fees. If I ever vanish — you lose a vendor, not your business. How the alternative goes wrong, and the five questions to ask anyone → Leaving a subscription website? Start here →

Straight answers

The questions people actually ask, answered in plain English.

How much does a small business website cost in Charlotte?

In Charlotte you'll see everything from $500 to $18,000 for the same-sounding project. Typical honest ranges: $1,500–$3,000 for a simple site, $3,000–$6,000 mid-range, $6,000+ for ecommerce. Mine are published right on this page — $1,500, $3,500, and $6,000+ — because you shouldn't need a sales call to learn a number.

Do I own my website, my domain, and my Google Business Profile?

Yes, yes, and yes. Your domain lives in your registrar account — I never register it in mine. On your Google Business Profile you're the Owner; I'm a Manager you can remove in two clicks. The site code is delivered to you. It's in the contract, not just on this page.

What happens if I want to cancel?

Thirty days' notice — everything is month to month. Then you get the Exit File: every credential, a full site backup, your data exported, and a clean handoff to whoever comes next. No exit fees, no “content-only” fine print. You lose a vendor, not your business.

My last web company won't give me my domain, site, or Google profile. Can you help?

It's depressingly common — and there are recovery paths for each: registrar transfer disputes for domains, Google's ownership-request process for profiles and analytics. Start with the $450 audit and I'll inventory exactly what you own, what you don't, and how to get it back.

What should I ask any web designer before hiring them — including you?

Five questions: Who owns the domain, and in whose account? Who owns the site once it's paid for? What exactly happens if we part ways? Is there a lock-in period? What's the total three-year cost? Anyone who squirms at these is telling you something. My answers are all over this page.

How much should SEO cost per month — and is cheap SEO worth it?

National surveys put typical local-SEO retainers between $500 and $1,500 a month. Below roughly $500, you're usually buying a report, not work. Get Found runs $850–$1,000/month, and what you get each month is listed in plain English — including a monthly report you can read in ten minutes.

I get most of my work from word of mouth. Do I need a website?

Word of mouth now ends at a search box: someone hears your name, then checks Google and asks AI whether you're real. A site plus an active Google Business Profile is how the referral survives that check. It's not about traffic — it's about not failing the verification step.

How long does SEO take?

Months, not weeks. Typically 90 days to see movement, 6–12 months to compound — faster in niches with weak competition. Anyone promising page one in 30 days is lying to you. I publish what I do each month so you can see the work while the results build.

Will you guarantee #1 rankings?

No, and nobody honest will — Google controls rankings, not marketers. What I guarantee is the work: published deliverables, a monthly plain-English report, and you owning every asset so you can fire me the moment I stop earning it.

You're one person. What happens if you disappear?

The whole setup is built so my absence can't hurt you: your domain in your account, your site code in your hands, standard platforms any developer can pick up. Solo is a risk you're protected from, not exposed to.

Why do you publish your prices?

Because you'd rather know, and because hiding them mostly filters for people who enjoy sales calls. Also practical: AI assistants recommend businesses whose facts they can verify — published pricing is verifiable. I sell that principle, so I'd better live it.

Wix or Squarespace vs. hiring you?

DIY builders are fine until you want to rank or leave — your content lives inside their system, and serious SEO hits their ceilings fast. If a $30/month builder genuinely covers your needs, the audit will say so. If you've outgrown it, I build on standard, portable foundations you own.
